A division of the online retailing giant Amazon, Amazon Gaming (formerly Amazon Game Studios) is a video game developer and publisher specializing in publishing games developed by the company’s development divisions.
PERSPECTIVE HISTORICAL:
Amazon launched its Amazon Appstore in 2011 and began hiring developers for mobile social games. Living Classics, a social game for Face book, was released by Amazon Game Studios in 2012.
Amazon announced its plans to create computer games in 2014. Amazon hired Kim Swift (Portal, who has since left for EA), Clint Hocking (Far Cry 2), and former System Shock 2 developers. The company wanted to make games in between the norms of small and large teams making casual and AAA games. Amazon wanted teams of five to thirty people working on games for between one and 18 months with a focus on “creativity” and “craftsmanship”, regardless of the genre. Mike Frizzing, the studio’s vice president, wanted to do projects like Mine craft, The Walking Dead, and The Room. As well as its cloud services and Amazon-branded devices, the studio wanted to influence the direction of their hardware. Due to developer feedback, the Amazon Fire TV has expanded memory and developers can offload processing to Amazon’s cloud services. In the first year after the company was founded, most of its developers left. Following the release of Lost Within, Amazon Game Studios published a number of mobile games.

NEW WORLD (2021)
Amazon Gaming Orange County developed and published Amazon Games’ massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), New World, on September 28, 2021. Prior to the delay, the game was scheduled for release in May 2020 and then August 2021. Players settle a fictional land based on the Americas in the mid-seventeenth century. While New World was initially intended to be a free-to-play game, it currently employs the standard buy-to-play model, a historical difference in comparison to many older MMORPGs which have traditionally used subscription models in order to maintain regular content updates. A limited selection of both decorative and game play-impacting functional items for use within the player housing system is also available as micro transactions in the form of skins.
LOST ARK (2019)
MMOARPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Action Role Playing Game) Lost Ark is a top-down 2.5D fantasy game. Tripod Studio and Smile gate’s game development subsidiary Smile gate RPG developed the game. It was fully released in the South Korean region on December 4, 2019. The game was also released on February 11, 2022, in North America, South America, and Europe, where it was published by Amazon Games. It became the second most played game on Steam within 24 hours of its release.
THE GRAND TOUR GAME (2019)
Developed and published by Amazon Game Studios with additional support from Heavy Iron Studios, The Grand Tour Game is an episodic racing video game. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game are available. The game is inspired by the Amazon Prime series The Grand Tour. There were new episodes of the game released simultaneously with each episode of Series 3 and covers the first episode of Series 1 and Series 2. These are the first two Amazon video games for these consoles. The game was first announced on 21 August 2018 by Amazon, followed by DriveTribe, and over the next few months, several trailers were released. Three days before Amazon Prime’s third season was scheduled to premiere, the game was released on 15 January 2019. The game was removed from the PlayStation Store, Xbox Games Store, and Amazon in June 2020. Developers were told by Amazon that their efforts and resources could be focused on other projects. In addition, Twitch Prime vehicles and all bonus content will expire on 31 July 2020.
